American Campus Communities manages more than 180 student housing communities across the U.S., so it’s a special occasion when these communities’ leaders can meet in person to learn from each other. This year’s annual ACC Leadership Conference, held from February 20-22 in San Diego, brought together more than 200 of ACC’s executives, senior leaders, general managers and other leaders to share ideas and celebrate the year’s top achievements.

"Investing in our team members’ professional development supports our company’s value to pursue growth,” said ACC CEO Rob Palleschi. “It’s particularly important to bring our on-site leaders together, as they drive ACC’s vision, mission and strategy by delivering the best experience in student housing, day in and day out.”

This year’s Leadership Conference was Beyond All Limits: team members challenged each other to step outside of their comfort zones and push the limits of possibility in 2024 and beyond. Attendees learned from ACC executives in an open question-and-answer session as well as at panels on topics such as ACC’s vision for growth; its technology-enabled transformation; managing growth and change; and its environmental, social and governance strategy. They also listened to each other and shared ideas at breakout sessions and coffee talks.

"The opportunity to learn and gain invaluable insights from other general managers not only enriched my knowledge but also equipped me with a deeper understanding of the company dynamics. With this new knowledge, I am excited to bring this information back to my property, ensuring its continuous growth and success,” said Cassie Hughes, general manager of The Retreat near Texas State University.

On the last evening of the event, the mood and attire turned even more festive as attendees gathered for our annual Leadership Conference awards ceremony recognizing the year’s top achievements. Winners received trophies and cash prizes.

As we look to the future, we’ll need to leverage ACC’s greatest assets – our people, our culture and our values – as we execute our long-term growth strategy. Whether we’re rolling out new processes or new technologies, it all starts with our general managers and on-site teams. Empowering our leaders to learn from one another will no doubt have lasting impact and create growth opportunities across our entire organization.
